3. Can I have a tree removed from the roadside in front of my house?

If the tree is within the town’s right-of-way and poses a safety hazard, the highway department will assess it for removal. If it is on private property, it is the resident’s responsibility. Once a resident requests the town assess trees for health and public safety if the trees are deemed unsafe and trimming alone can not mitigate public safety the trees unfortunately must be removed.
*Stump grinding cost would fall onto resident’s responsibility.

4. My mailbox was damaged by a snowplow. Will the town replace it?

To report a damaged mailbox, contact the Highway Department at (315) 687-6031. Mailboxes may be hit accidentally or damaged by snow weight. If we’re responsible, we’ll repair it promptly. We’ll replace it with a standard metal box and pressure-treated post. Temporary repairs may be needed until replacement.

We are not required by law to repair mailboxes, but we offer this service as a courtesy. Please note, we do not replace mailboxes on State Roads.
